Culture Concepts Vo-Tech Programs offer people who study or practice
in technical fields, such as; Nursing, Aviation, Diving, Printing,
Accounting, Clerical, Driving, Mechanic, Dentistry, Golfing,
Cooking, Computer, Sailing, Aerobics, Sports Medicine, to enhance
the English skills of Vocational students while providing a first-handed
opportunity for students to observe US. practices in their field.
The following features are common to most programs:
á American English and Culture Classes
Classes are generally held for three hours in the mornings at
an American college or university. Faculty have credentials in
English as a Second Lauguage(ESL) instruction. Emphasis is on
conversational English with a focus in technical vocabulary specific
to the students' field of study. Whenever possible, students
will be matched with an American who has knowledge of the field
of study for conversation partners.
á Overview and Guest Lecturers
An overview lecture is given by an expert in the students' field
that discusses their vocation, relating it to the status of that
field in the US. This talk includes discussion of relevant technologies,
professional practices, salaries, etc. Throughout the remainder
of the study tour, a series of guest lecturers will address other
related topics of interest and entertain questions.
á Technical Visits
A series of technical field trips to companies and/or facilities
of interest to the vocational students will be conducted in the
afternoons. Students will tour the sites in small groups and
will have a chance to ask questions of experienced professionals
in their field.
á Field Trips
Full-day excursions to famous local sites and attractions will
be scheduled to enhance students' knowledge of the United States
and the location they are visiting.
á American Family Homestay
Students are pre-matched by ACC staff for optimum compatibility.
Weekends are not scheduled with activities, allowing students
to spend time with their host families.
